Found what is hopefully the last bugs.

When you move your d-pad in the help screen, your player would get a game-over when you start the game, but when you start a game again, you wouldn't get a game-over. Another issue was that your player would automatically take its first turn. Both issues were caused by using the d-pad in the help screen. Both bugs are fixed.
